About Cornerstone

Cornerstone is an amateur music ensemble based in Ottawa, Ontario that provides contemporary catholic music for worship. Our philosophy is based on the premise that our job is to accompany, support and enable the voice of the assembly in an enthusiastic and joy-filled way, promoting active participation in the liturgy.

The ensemble is comprised of a group of vocalists and instrumentalists of all ages, accompanied on guitar, piano, cello and trumpet. We are non-discriminatory, welcoming individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Our members have a wide range of musical backgrounds and abilities, ranging from amateur singers to professional experience.

Our repertoire ranges from traditional hymns to contemporary songs from composers such as David Haas, Marty Haugen, Bob Hurd, and Dan Schutte. We believe fully that enthusiastic singing and musicianship brings out our highest praise of God, and our style reflects that. We take pride in our abilities, and do our best to share our gifts by leading the assembly in joyful song.

Cornerstone is always welcoming of new vocalists and instrumentalists. If you are interested in joining, please contact Dan with a brief description of your musical experience and interest.

Members of Cornerstone are also available to provide music for weddings and other occasions. Let us know if you are interested in discussing music for your next event.

After more than 20 years at Holy Cross Parish, Cornerstone has found a new home at St. Margaret Mary's parish in Ottawa South (map). Come and join us Sundays at 7:30 pm, beginning the First Sunday of Lent, February 29, 2004.
